Summer Festival in Thorne Memorial Park 28th July 2018

The trains on the Thornepark Railway were kept busy on the Saturday of what should have been a two day event. Regrettably after weeks of fine sunny weather the rain and earlier overnight gale force winds ruined the planned Sunday's Events and it had to be cancelled. I have added a few photographs of the other rides and stalls etc the event below. Trains are now operating every Sunday until the end of October 2018 (subject to conditions)

Doncaster trolleybus  dack under the wires for the 2018 Sandtoft Gathering Event

Doncaster's Last Trolleybus closed the trolleybus system on the 14th December 1963. The vehicle was transferred to the bus museum and operated for many of the operating days including the Sandtoft Gathering Event between 1972 - 1989. After which it was withdrawn pending major restoration that started in 2012 and has been covered on this website. So it was  with pride for the restoration team from the Doncaster Omnibus & Light Railway Society when the trolleybus entered service for the Gathering Event on July 28/29th July. For more photographs of the Gathering Event go to my Facebook page look for the Gathering photographs. .

The steam locomotive Remus may make a two day visit back to Sandtoft

The 7 1/4" gauge locomotive that last operated on the tracks of the Sandtoft Miniature Railway may be making a return visit for the 2 Day Steam Event on the 22nd and 23rd September. Above left  we see the locomotive on its last day in service on the Monday of the May Day weekend 2000. Middle the locomotive leaving the shed for the last time later that week. Right this is where a temporary portable track will be placed like last year and all being well Remus will be able to haul passengers again.

Trolleybuses,  Miniature Railway, Steam traction Engines at the 2017 Steam Rally in 2017 at the museum is back again for the 2018 event with even more visiting exhibits than last year, so once again the museum will be on the busy side, plenty of smoke and steam plus of course the trolleybus rides and the Isle of Axholme Bus Tours and other attractions including musical entertainments and Beer Tent. An event not to be missed.
