Summer Festival Event Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th July 2008
Hopefully the trains will not be held by pirates as they did for the 2007 event. There was a wide range of attractions for this special two day event. Both steam and electric trains will be in operation on both days, plus we have an initiation for visiting locomotives and models.
The annual visit by the Thorne Rainbows and Brownies took place in brilliant sunshine on Monday 30th June and Tuesday 1st July. The trains were kept very busy and both days especially on the Tuesday when we started the train service at 4 pm for the first group the Rainbows. With a break for half an hour it was action stations for the arrival of the Brownies. Click on the photograph or here for more photographs of the event. Change to the line up for the "Music in the Park". On the 3rd of August the Frickley/South Elmsall Brass Band are unable to attend. The Armthorpe / Elmfield Band are now booked for the 10 August. Welcome to the website for the Thorne Memorial Park Miniature Railway The 7¼" & 5" Gauge miniature railway is operated by the volunteer members of the Doncaster & District Model Engineering Society Ltd every Sunday afternoon between Easter and September and every first Sunday in the month Farmer's Market Specials, plus other events, special operating days including Bank Holiday Mondays. The railway is located near to the centre of Thorne which is just off the M18 junctions 5 & 6 and some 13 miles from Doncaster. The railway operates in the beautiful surroundings of Thorne Memorial Park next to the Stainforth & Keadby Canal. The 5" & 7¼" gauge track facilities are available by request for all visiting clubs/societies and those with locomotives and rolling stock. "Music in the Park"BrassBand concerts and Thorne Moorends Community Radio live in the park on Sunday afternoon's in the park's bandstand stand during July and August. Concerts start at 3 pm. On the first Sunday in every month a Farmer's Market is held in the town centre.
