Filey Railway Station  9th June 2016

As part of a three day break we called in to have a look at Filey Railway Station and capture on camera some aspects of the stations charm. To the left  we have the traditional and well recognised poster to the right on display a scaled locomotive and figures at the approach to Platform 2.

A very tradition station roof of the region very similar to the roof put back on the North Yorkshire Moors railway station at Pickering. The 11.28 hrs train to Scarborough  pulls in for the waiting passengers. The view on the right was taken from the bridge in the station.

The entrance to the railway station including a view of what I presume to be the base for the former water crane tank. The approach to the right probably the only changes being the vintage of the cars and vans parked outside.

Bempton Railway Station  10th June 2016 (and 1961)

Bempton railway station serves the village of Bempton in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is located on the Yorkshire Coast Line and is operated by Northern who provide all passenger train services. It is located on the single track section between Hunmanby and Bridlington and is the nearest railway station to the RSPB nature reserve at Bempton Cliffs (1.5 miles (2.4 km) away to the east).

A chance to take a closer look at some of the track where the two types of rail met. The flat bottomed rail is used for the level crossing whilst we see part of a communications box with its sensors clearly visible.

Flamborough Railway Station  10th June 2016

The former Flamborough railway station is located in the village of Marton, and was originally named thus. It was situated on the Yorkshire Coast Line from Scarborough to Hull and was opened on 20 October 1847 by the York and North Midland Railway. However, there were several other railway stations also called Marton, so on 1 July 1884 the North Eastern Railway renamed it after the village of Flamborough several miles away. It closed on 5 January 1970. In 1976 the station was given Grade II listed building status.

The former Flamborough railway station once served the famous village and the cliffs. Like Bempton this station was not exactly near to the coast in today's age of the motor car thus Flamborough station was closed. A 1962 timetable indicates the in frequent trans that called at the Flamborough station.

Blackpool North tramway extension now given the go ahead

There has been some controversy in Blackpool with some - including taxi drivers - saying that the line would add to congestion on the Promenade.  The plan to build an extension of the Blackpool tramway running up Talbot Road to North Station has been approved at a full council meeting held on the evening of Wednesday 29th June. 26 councillors voted in favour of the extension being constructed, with just 11 opposing it.

Left and middle above the point work was put in for the extension to the North Railway Station when the track was re-laid as part of the upgrade of the system. Right above the point work put in but was never used for the back way into the Rigby Road depot and possible new tram sheds. Below  trams once operated to the North Station until the early 1960's. Will the planned reconnection of the tramway to the railway station go the same way as the NGT trolleybus project in Leeds?
