New Year Specials

The miniature railway was named the "Thorne Memorial Park Miniature Railway" between 2000 - 2012. Then a new name was adopted "ThornePark Railway" with a new website with that name and a new Domain name. The link is provided above. As far I know no trains, locomotives have operated on the tracks for 2017 . Above we used to operate a train for visitors on the first Sunday in the New Year which was highly successful and stopped the tracks from getting rusty, thereafter trains would then operate every first Sunday up until Easter, then the new seasons timetable took over.

Contrasts in s size two views showing the visiting petrol locomotive on the outer dual gauge circuit for 5 & 7.25 inch locomotives. Visitors enjoying the warm March sunshine and a cup of tea with the train service operating in 2007

Going back to the original website for the August 2006 Some once familiar faces driving the trains whilst I would imagine the young lad is now a teenager who may well remember the days he made these drawings that they took home with them.

"The Duke" name plate is applied

On the 19th March 2006 nearing completion by the members of the group, the Electric locomotive "Duke" receives its name plate after receiving its coat of LNER Blue. The locomotive has seen much use once the temperamental electrics were sorted out and has given good service since.  Article 2 March 2016

27th July 2003 singer Madeline Roberts attends the Summer Festival event and gives a photographic opportunity for some publicity material along with the steam locomotive "Remus".  The middle photograph was the one that we used with leaflets and posters printed free of charge by Brammel

2010 It was my birthday on the 7th June and David Stybbins the following day. My wife Pat visited the Farmer's Market and purchased a chocolate fudge cake which David and myself are seen cutting on the cab of the electric locomotive "The Duke". Our campervan featured most operating days from 2000 - 2012 helping to provide facilities for teas coffees and the sales stall often a retreat when sudden showers occurred. At tea-time it was time for me to have my birthday treat by riding on a tram at Sheffield. It has been a tradition to have a ride on electric transport. In past this has included riding on the trolleybuses in Toronto, Budapest and Porto.

The track work crew in action again, "present brushes" July 2010. The steam locomotive 'Koppel' being reassembled after some work to the motion. The locomotive 'John L Stokes' with David Stubbins at the controls operates the final train of the afternoon.

The Summer Festival Event 2010 was a very busy weekend plenty of sunshine for the visiting Midland unit and the resident electric locomotive "John L Stokes" driven by former D&D member David Stubbins.

Summer August 16th 2006 The station sign using hand cut lettering and the steam locomotive Remus with Stuart Lamming driving

The above views were taken on the 5th February 2011. The electric locomotive had lost its "2011" head board somewhere. The "Margaret" coach was ideal for family's with young children.

Thorne Farmers Market Day Sunday 5th March 2006. This was a popular event held every 1st Sunday in the month for which the railway used to operate. Tables set out for the visitors to enjoy the late winter sunshine and train rides. A mug of tea for one of the members as steam is raised for the occasion.

27th June 2010 some pleasant warm sunshine greets the visitors to Thorne Memorial Park.  We have the late Brian Wharton who travelled down from Newcastle and back to be driving the trains in the park. Brian was  a member of the Sandtoft Miniature Railway group that operated until May 2000 when the railway was dismantled a short while later. The photograph is of him driving a train before he was taken ill. Brian will be remembered for his dedication. The locomotive might be making a return to the Sandtoft Museum using some portable track along with the coach using portable track for the steam weekend 23rd and 24th September 2017. To be confirmed so please watch this space.

On the same day the electric locomotives "Mufuta"  and "John L Stokes" provide the train service.
