Doncaster Corporation Tramways operated their first motorbus service to Skellow on the 326th October 1922. First buses repainted one of the buses into the last livery of Doncaster Transport to help celebrate the occasion. The Doncaster Omnibus and Light Railway Society made available their preserved 1953 AEC bus for the celebrations that took place on the 11th October 2013 when the buses took part in a journey on this first motorbus route. See Robert Ashton Facebook for more photographs of the event.

The Luftwaffe targeted the railways and did considerable damage to our railway network. Below some photographs depicting the railways during World war II from the late Walt Ashton collection.

Above the nameplate of "A4" 4469 Sir Ralph Wedgwood withstood the "Blitz" at York Railway Station and was to be transferred to another engine.

Work continues on Doncaster's Last Trolleybus

Doncaster's Last Trolleybus seen in the B&W photograph on the 14th December 1963 continues to be restored with further gloss paint being added on the 5th November 2013. It was hoped that the restoration would have been further than it is for the 14th December this year but the work to do a thorough job is taking longer than anticipated.

Downstairs contrasts September 2012 and November 2013. Seats have been removed, the wooden floors slats, lino removed and almost 99% of the paint stripped from the ceiling the restoration proceeds at a steady pace. The work force has depleted somewhat from the initial helpers but we will get there.

A postcard from Cleethorpes

I have been visiting Cleethorpes since 1948 and managed to collect many postcards as well as taking many photographs since 1964 of what was a miniature railway and then when it re-gauged to light railway. The Cleethorpes Coast Light Railway is a 15 in railway built in 1948 in Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire operating between Cleethorpes Leisure Centre and behind Pleasure Island/buck beck.

Plenty of blue skies and sunshine usually were depicted after all who wanted to post a card with grey skies and rain.

To the right we have a postcard from The Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway which was a narrow gauge heritage railway built in 1958 using equipment from the Nocton Potato Estate railway. It was located at Humberston, near Cleethorpes, and operated until 1985. .The council insisted on the installation of 6-foot-high (1.8 m) fences on both sides of the railway. In 1985, faced with a series of obstacles, the railway closed, and the track was lifted shortly afterwards.
Much of the stock of the railway stayed together and was put into storage at the Skegness Water Leisure Park. A revived Lincolnshire Coast Light Railway was built on the site and opened on 3 May 2009.
