Train services on the railway line between Doncaster - Hull (via Google) and Doncaster to Scunthorpe/Cleethorpes were suspended due to a serious trackbed damage caused by a landslip at the nearby Hatfield Colliery. Replacement bus services operated between Doncaster and Goole/Scunthorpe in both directions. The line was initially not expected to reopen until at least September 2013, but following major repairs the line reopened (initially with only 2 of the 4 tracks in use) on 8 July 2013. Train Operating Companies Northern Rail & TransPennine Express will run a limited service to/from Hull & Cleethorpes (supplemented by buses) until a full timetable resumes on 29 July. A reminder of the work that took place during preceding month's
The work to put right the damage to get the damage caused by the landslip will have cost many millions of pounds and transformed the local landscape. The need to remove part of the tip became a massive operation to re-locate the spoil, some being put onto once arable farmland on the opposite side of Kirton Lane on the out skirts of Stainforth. The opportunity to relay and upgrade tracks along the line either side of the landslip.
On the South side of the railway bridge the trackbed, tracks and point work were completed replaced. Left looking towards the goods branch to Barnby Dun which was completely renewed.
Meanwhile at the site of the landslip work continues to stabilise the land and track bed. During June using limestone.
