Visit by Marshland School Moorends Tuesday 30th September 2008
Well wrapped up and with raincoats a group of children from the Marshland School Moorends made the way into the rather cold and wet park to ride on the miniature railway. Whilst we completed our safety checks to the track the children and the staff took shelter in the bandstand, but they were soon boarding the train for the first of many trips around the circuit.
Above Keith as driver and our Jordan guarding, both keeping an eye out for the ducks that were enjoying feeding on whatever ducks feed on when the grass is wet. On several occasions the train had to slow down as ducks insisted on crossing the tracks. Whilst on the opposite side of the track the first of the Autumn leaves are falling onto the track.
Most of the children had we found out had ridden on the railway before, just a few not, but what they had not seen, was their teacher driving a railway locomotive before. It was time for our member Stuart Lamming to be the teacher! (Above right and below right)
Above left we see them lined up next to the station sign "Thorne Central" for a group photograph. The children and staff enjoyed their and I am sure the notice board in the school will be displaying many photographs of their visit to the railway. Thank you to pupils, the teacher, their helpers and our members for braving the rain to make it an enjoyable visit the first of many we hope.
